Cappelen-Gruppen is one of Norways leading publishers
and a subsidiary of the well-known Swedish publisher Bonniers
in Stockholm. The Cappelen-group employs approximately 300 people,
and consists of a main publishing house in Oslo and three smaller
publishing houses in the Oslo area. A fourth subsidiary, also in
Oslo, distributes the Cappelen products to vendors, such as book
stores.
Over a period of time, Cappelen-Gruppen
had been looking for a new fax solution to replace their existing
one, which had become incompatible with their environment. They
had an SMTP mail server and Windows 95 and Mac clients, using Eudora
and MS Exchange as their e-mail applications. Ideally, they wanted
to integrate fax with their POP3 e-mail clients.
By chance Nils Aage Bjeren, Supervisor of office-services
at Cappelen, came across GFI FAXmaker: We had been
looking for this kind of application ever since we converted to
Internet E-mail solutions and Windows 95 almost two years ago, but
nobody could deliver anything like it until now.
Nils was also impressed by GFI FAXmakers ease of use: The
learning time for each individual was brief because there was no
new interface to be learnt. Our users simply send faxes from their
familiar e-mail applications, that being Eudora, MS-Explorer or
whatever. Also, because of GFI FAXmakers integration with
e-mail, users can send a fax to somebody and send a copy by e-mail
to their colleague, or send the same message to a number of recipients
whether they have fax or e-mail. Very nice.
Cappelen has their POP3-mailserver installed at their main office
in Oslo, providing mail services to the main office and subsidiaries.
Connection between main office and subsidiaries is 64 kb channels
(either 64 kb single point-to-point Data lines or 64 kb channels
out of 2 mb lines), providing IP and IPX services LAN-LAN. Cappelen
also has some users connecting from home or mobile through modems
or ISDN.
Bottom Line:
Product: GFI FAXmaker for SMTP, 250 users
Mail server: Sendmail
POP3 clients: Eudora, MS Exchange
Clients: Windows 95 and Mac
