World’s first open standard POP3/SMTP fax gateway
London, UK, 27th January 1997 - GFI, developer and designer of fax server software, is introducing the world’s first fax server which integrates with all open standard SMTP/POP3 servers: FAXmaker for Intranet. By merging seamlessly with standard e-mail software, its users no longer have to switch to separate fax software to send or receive a fax. FAXmaker for Intranet will be introduced in the USA, Canada, Asia and Europe this month.
FAXmaker for Intranet is the world’s first fax server which integrates with all mail clients using POP3 or SMTP, including widely accepted e-mail clients such as Eudora, Netscape and MS Exchange. Apart from this word wide first, one of the most striking new features of FAXmaker for Intranet is the least cost fax routing system. By using the Internet as an inexpensive backbone between fax servers, companies can send national and international faxes at local telephone rates, thus saving substantial faxing costs.
Unique integration of fax and e-mail Thanks to its unique integration of fax and e-mail, FAXmaker for Intranet also offers other interesting features. Because the e-mail and fax accounts appear in one address book, users can send the same information to a number of recipients, regardless of whether recipients have e-mail, fax or both. Furthermore, users need only check one application for new messages. This means that a user can now read all incoming faxes from any PC in the world, just as if it were e-mail.
Easy to use and install Faxing is now as easy as sending an e-mail, says Nicholas Galea, Managing Director of GFI. “As FAXmaker for Intranet integrates with existing e-mail software, it is easy to install and saves users valuable time in becoming familiar with a completely new software package. Network administrators will also like FAXmaker for Intranet because it extends the power of their existing Intranet and reduces administration overhead.
GFI will market FAXmaker for Intranet world wide through a network of resellers and distributors, and by entering into agreements with leading mail server vendors.
